As Akay Group, we have been the distributor for Anadolu Efes since 1972, and the distributor for Philip Morris since 1994, in Van. While working in Van and in its nearby cities, we entered the market in Ankara in 2003, as a distributor for Anadolu Efes.
Through our ongoing distribution services of the Anadolu Efes products in Ankara, we reached many customers and high-liter beverage sales within years. During that period, being far from the market in Ankara and being an outsider looking inside this market were conditions that enabled us to perform our activity with ease, rather than obstacles in our way. We believe that our manner of working as a distributor in the Ankara region largely contributed to the success of Anadolu Efes.
In 2007, Mey Icki and one other company also ventured with us into the market in Ankara, as their distributors. Having new opened doors to a completely new and different field for us, as a distributor for Mey İçki, enabled us to reach a new and different region, which not only meant us receiving financial support, but also led to a significant improvement in our customer portfolio. We have faith in being able to increase the level of distribution for Mey İçki, as we believe we strongly contributed to an increase in sales from 2007 until today, bringing these sales to a better place.
2008 saw us return to our roots as our paths crossed those of the distribution of Coca Cola Beverages. The Coca Cola Company deciding to work with us, in 2008, as the main distributor for the Ankara region and, in 2015, for the Samsun region, strengthened our position in the market even more and led to our becoming a corporate company.
After entering the Black Sea Region Market via the distribution of Coca Cola in Samsun, we broadened our operations by starting distributing for Anadolu Efes in Trabzon. These developments further boosted our company and our place in sales and in the distribution industry in the region.
For a better cooperation with the brands it distributes for, Akay Group established HR, Finance and Supervision departments, gained a professional management and team-work understanding, and reached a more corporate structure.
When we ventured into the tourism industry, in 2007, it was very clear to us that the top priority should be impeccable customer service.
The Rescate Hotel in Ankara, which was a great successful experience for us, fueled our fire for the tourism industry. From the opening day until today, the Rescate Boutique Hotel has made us happy with its room occupancy rates and top quality customer service, which turned the experience into a profitable success for us.
As Van is our hometown, it has always been the first city coming to mind for our investments, and it is the city where we have always dreamt of investing. June 2011 was when we finally had the opportunity to open our hotel “Rescate”, the first 5-star hotel in Van, followed by a merge of this hotel with the brand “Double Tree By Hilton”, in 2016. Our first goal was to enhance the service quality in the city, one we accomplished in good time. The guests at the Rescate Hotel, Van, are catered to with the utmost care, events are held in 5-star comfort and companies have the opportunity to enjoy holding meetings in the city. This is a constant source of joy for us and our hard work has led to great success. We are confident that Van will overcome regional problems and fulfill its real tourism potential.
In July 2012, we had the privilege to host our first guests at the Rescate Hotel Asia, in Istanbul – which was one of the most important steps in becoming a hotel franchise. The Rescate Hotel Asia will shine even brighter with Atasehir, which is the new financial center of Turkey and of Istanbul. This hotel was designed specifically as a business hotel to provide the much needed lodgings for professionals in the area.
Within the body of Akay Group, including our hotels, approximately 400 individuals are employed. With the establishment of the Finance and Supervision units, Akay Group evolved from a family company to a professional corporation. Our financial policy is based on a professional approach and on profitability. Rigorous internal supervision enables things to run smoothly and in compliance with relevant rules and regulations.
Akay Group has proven its efficient quality control in the sale, storage and distribution of beverages by receiving the ISO 9001-2008 certification, has been the highest tax payer in Van for many years and has been on Fortune Magazine’s list of top 500 businesses in Turkey.
